In LAN play, can chat in lobby but hosted games cannot be seen.Q1: Is it possible you have a network bridge enabled? A1: Here's how to check, in XP. On your desktop, or the START button on the taskbar, right click on My Network Places and make sure you don't have multiple LAN network connections enabled (1394, Firewire, Bluetooth Connections are ok). I cannot join other internet games.Q1: Do you have any 3rd-party firewall or anti-virus software (e.g. Symantec, McAfee) running on your PC? A1: Either disable your firewall software (not recommended), or make sure that Dungeon Siege II is on the firewall's exception list. In addition, some anti-virus applications have been found to block traffic on necessary ports. As with the firewall software, you may either temporarily disable your anti-virus software, or make the necessary exceptions in its configuration. Please see your software firewall or anti-virus documentation for instructions on how to do so. Note: If you are using Windows XP SP2's built-in firewall (the "Windows Firewall"), Dungeon Siege II should ask to add itself to the exception list when you first enter the in-game multiplayer menu. If it does not, you may have to manually add it to the exception list. Q2: Have other people been able to join hosted games that you are trying to join? A2: If no one can join, the Host may need to open the required outbound and inbound ports (see Clients cannot join my hosted games below) and the host should enable UPnP on their router or firewall. The host must not skip this step. It may also be necessary to start uPNP (Universal Plug and Play) services on Windows XP. It's not nessary for everyone, and uPNP in XP is off by default. Ensure that the UPnP service is actually running on Windows XP, by going into the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and scrolling down to Universal Plug and Play. Other services, such as SSDPRSRV, may also need to be started first (SSDPRSRV is on by default). Be sure to START the services, don't just click OK. Q3: Are you on a corporate, school, or similar institution's network? A3: Your institution's network or firewall administrator may need to make exceptions in their firewall rules to allow the following outbound traffic:
* varies depending on the host's IP address Many corporate and school firewalls perform 'egress filtering' which denies all outbound traffic unless specifically allowed, thus the above traffic must be explicitly allowed Clients cannot join my hosted games.Q1: Do you have any 3rd-party firewall software (e.g. Symantec, McAfee) running on your PC? A3: Your institution's network or firewall administrator may need to make exceptions in their firewall rules to allow the following outbound traffic:
* varies depending on the client IP address(es) Q4: Does your firewall or router support UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), and is it enabled? A4:To host a game, the host should enable UPnP on their router or firewall. It may also be useful (especially if the router does't support uPNP) to try starting uPNP (Universal Plug and Play) services on Windows XP. If your firewall or router does not support UPnP, you will need to open the following ports on your firewall/router for inbound traffic to the computer on which to wish to host the game (i.e. "port-forwarding"):
* This will be the IP of the computer you wish to host the game on. For more information on port-forwarding, see your router or firewall's manual, or visit their support website. Note: See NOTE #1 and #2 below for additional information on UPnP and port-forwarding. Many corporate and school firewalls perform 'egress filtering' which denies all outbound traffic unless specifically allowed, thus the above traffic must be explicitly allowed. The game hangs at a "blackscreen" with only the cursor visible when I try to play a multiplayer game.NOTE: The v2.2 patch should make the following shortcut unnecessary. But if you want to run DS2 v2.0 or 2.1, then this info is still useful: Try adding the following command line argument to the shortcut that calls DungeonSiege2.exe, then launch the game using the edited shortcut: dpnsvr=false
Example "Target:": "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege 2\DungeonSiege2.exe" dpnsvr=false
Note: This workaround is applicable only if you experience the detailed "blackscreen" issue (commonly experienced by those using a Linksys WRT54G broadband router) where the screen goes black when you click on START and you're hosting a game – it is not a silver bullet for all hosting/joining issues. Using UPnPNOTE #1 – Port-forwarding & DSII v2.0 & v2.1: With Dungeon Siege II versions 2.0 & 2.1, disabling UPnP will render hosting impossible, regardless of your router's model or port forwarding configuration. NOTE #2 – UPnP & joining games: UPnP configuring is a non-issue for machines attempting to join a game. If you are unable to join a game, it's not UPnP's fault, but another issue - either outbound ports are being blocked by your router/firewall, a host-based firewall or anti-virus application, or you're attempting to join a host that does not satisfy the above conditions.
