DS2 All*Saves (allows Dungeon Siege 2.2 to recognize any savegame version)

Friday, October 7, 2005 - 17:43

This was included in last Succubus modlet version, but I was requested to do a standalone version for players and modders to use with their own custom contents.

So there you go :)

***********************************************************
DS2 All*Saves for Dungeon Siege 2.2
***********************************************************

Download at: http://karamail.nerim.net/elys/download/DS2_AllSaves_v2.msi
( 445KB Microsoft Installer )

Installation & Use
******************

Install by running the DS2_AllSaves_v2.msi installer.

Then use the new created "Dungeon Siege 2 AllSaves" shortcut to play.

***************************************
Version 2:
***************************************

- Allow any savegames to be loaded by the game. This program will not fix Dungeon Siege 2 crash related to savegames. It will just allow the game to recognize any savegame version.
- An experimental "SeeFar Hack" slider has been added to the loader so people can play with it to enjoy far view while playing.
- The camera has been tweaked to be less restritive whatever are the internal map settings.
- The new shortcut can accept any Dungeon Siege 2 command line parameters.

Just double-clik on it. It's a Windows Installer file (*.msi). If it is an unknown file extension on your system, it means your Windows installation is corrupted or missing the Windows Installer

ok, maybe I'm just stupid. but it doesn't want to work for me. Installed it and when I go to start it, I get a nice little message saying it cannot find or load DS 2. Does it need some command line magic?

That error message happens when it cannot find the DungeonSiege2.exe file.

For one, this would happens if DS2 has not been installed normally, for example copied from one PC to another manually or extracted from an usermade installation/archives. Or if the Windows Registry have been alterated.

The DS2ALL*Saves installer need informations from the Windows Registry that have been created by the Dungeon Siege 2 installer.

If these informations are missing, it will not be installed in DungeonSiege2 folder since it cannot find where the game is located, but DS2All*Saves will be installed on your harddrive root instead.

If if is your case, you can manually fix it by moving the DS2AllSaves.exe and ElysDS2Allsaves.dll into your DS2 folder, and to launch it from there.

1.Right clicked DS2_AllSaves_v2.msi and selected Install
2. The "DS2 All Saves" icon appeared on the desktop
3. I clicked on it and the little DS2 All*Saves Loading window appeared.
4. I did not turn the "SeeFar Hack" on and I clicked the Launch button
5. The Dungeon Siege II splash screen appeared.
6. A pop up box appeared and stated:

Title: DS2 All*Saves v2
Cannot load DS2 All*Saves! (DS2 wrong version?)

I have Dungeon Siege 2 installed at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege 2

The verion of the DungeonSiege2.exe is 2.20.0.3822

Why did this happen? Is the version I am running too new?

You are running the correct version.

"Cannot load DS2 All*Saves! (DS2 wrong version?)" can appears mostly for 2 reasons:

The DungeonSiege2.exe executable has been alterated and is not recognized. (All*Saves checks DungeonSiege2.exe loaded in memory to check if its the correct executable loaded in memory that All*Saves has been designed for)

Or for X reason, on your particular configuration, All*Saves cannot access to DungeonSiege2.exe in memory.

Try to get the All*Save_v1, maybe it will help in your special case because it uses a different method.

Your tool does not work for savegames created without external mods from the toolkit (ds2 version 2.30mod)!

Can you fix that or tell if it is possible to convert them so they are usable in the standard 2.20?

(I posted this over on the Hotfix forum too)

My problem is that there's something about the Hotfix mod beta 4b and/or All*Saves v2 that PERMANENTLY breaks Broken World.

I was happily playing DS2 with those mods, then bought Broken World. I carefully followed the instructions for converting my characters to avoid the "inn bug". Problem was, Broken World would not work (crashed before main menu). Tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling vanilla DS2 and BW, and removing my saved characters. Broken World STILL crashes before the main menu!?!

Now, months later, I have totally reformatted my hard drive and re-installed Windows. Installed DS2, it worked. Installed BW, it worked too! Once again I followed the instructions for converting my characters (installed All*Saves and hotfix, cleared the inn, removed All*Saves and hotfix). Now Broken World crashes like it did before. Uninstall / reinstall still doesn't fix it.

My conclusion: either All*Saves or the hotfix are NOT uninstalling cleanly, and are leaving something behind (registry?) that crashes BW on startup.

Can anybody offer me any help or advice? I don't feel like reformatting my drive again just to play Broken World...
