When a Pet dies...

Monday, October 17, 2005 - 07:46

After resurrecting a dead pet all features it has got once by feeding are gone!
Although it still looks like an 'adult' pet with aura, it only has now the basic attributes like a 'baby' pet.

You easily can check it out - just take a pet to the Kaderak mines in act 3 and let it hit a powder barrel (i hope there is one left at least...Eye-wink)
The full pet attributes get re-initiated if you send the pet to the inn and get it back again, or if you restart the game.

I only have (temporarly) sacrified my ice-elemental pet and my dire wolf, but i supposed this may be a gerneral bug!? - I have found nothihng about it...

Just tried it out and you are correct:

Subjects:
Dire Wolf, Lap Dragon, Pack Mule

It did it with both Resurection (III) and Resurrection Scrolls...

Nice catch! (How did you find out, or better, how did your pet's ever died? Smiling)

I bet Zaramoth's Eye could do it also!

This could be a variant of the bug that prevents resurrected NPC's item properties from counting, although this also happens when bringing them out of the inn. You can fix the problems by re-equipping all their items.

Cheers,

Maybe the way the game counts the bonuses from eating items is in some way connected to the way it counts bonuses from wearing items...

So wait let me get this straight, was he saying that if this happens to you with your pet dying and losing all it's adult attributes, then you can restore all of its gained attributes by simply disbanding it and then picking it back up at the inn? This is comforting if there is such a simple fix for the bug. Guess I could go test it myself sometime.

Part II Sad

The story goes on, but now the 'opposite way': pet alive, char dead!

Scenario:
- Single player mode.
- Party with one char with one pet as fledgling or higher.

Event:
- Your char dies.
- However the pet is/keeps still alive.

Consequence:
- Game reports 'lost' and you are forced to return to the next town to respawn.

Bug:
- Although your pet was alive an conscious all the time the pet's value are reset as if it would be a 'baby'.

Side note:
- Is the game really lost? Why it's not allowed that the pet returns to get some help!?
It even will be considered as lost if you have bought a 3rd and 4th member slot and eg. Finala waits as disbanded char in the inn where also Amren is waiting to be hired.
