Aircraft Carrier Useless???

Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 12:28

Can someone explain what is the point of the Atlantis and the Czar and the other Aircraft Carrier since plane are like 1000Xfaster, have almost unlimited range and can fight when not in the carrier?????????????????????? The biggest map by now is 20km X 20km and the biggest will have 80km X 80km. I feel thats even on the biggest map plane will be able to go accross the map and return, since now they can go everywhere on the map and it takes a long time before they need to be refueled. I hope they will fix it because i really fell the atlantis and the Czar are Too much useless and are a waste of experimental units (at least the Czar have a beam, the Atlantis is THE MOST useless units ever, Nothing more than a normal carrier except he can go underwater, WOW what a powerfull abilities "sarcasm")

Sorry and Delete me if its in another threads.

When planes run low on fuel/juice/whatever it is, they end up flying much slower and therefore being much more vulnerable to AA/interceptors. Yes they could fly all the way back to a base and repair/refuel/rearm, however they'll still take quite a bit of time to accomplish that. A carrier sitting offshore or in the sky nearby will allow you to keep up a constant amount of pressure on the enemy and not have to have gaps of time spent flying all the way back to base.

For the people saying the Atlantis is useless, I have to wonder if they've even tried the unit out. It's a monstrous sub that is armed with alot of AA weaponry and it can annihilate enemy aircraft quite easily. On top of that it can dive to escape alot of enemy fire. Finally it launches a powerful spread of torpedoes that can destroy naval units rather efficiently. I did a test where I had the Atlantis go up against the tempest (both submerged) and the Atlantis beat it rather easily, even more impressive due to the fact that the Tempest started firing long before the Atlantis did and the Tempest is supposed to be more of a combat unit than the Atlantis.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't carriers also repair damaged aircraft?

Oh ya, left that out, they fix em up.

Any way to make Aircraft auto-refuel?

I set up interceptors and scouts on patrols and always forget they need refueling.. it's always been automatic in every other RTS I've played.

As long as the patrol route goes near an airbase (the tech 2 building) or a carrier, they should do it automatically.

They can NOT refuel at the air construction building.

They need to add some toggles to aircraft so you can order them to either return to the nearest base when low on fuel, or otherwise continue to loiter over their current position.

I agree!

speaking of toggles and HUD stuff, has anyone noticed that when you have just 1 unit selected theres nothing on the hud about health or anything? when you have more it shows in the bottom bit but only when you mouseover it shows info. i think thats pretty silly. you should that mouseover thing popup when a units selected so you know a.) if its ok b.) which type it is

Agreed, more info would be welcome, along with a fix for the ridiculously oversized UI.
